The following is the East Providence
School Department's School Cancellation and Delayed Opening Procedures:
The decision to cancel or to delay the start of school
will be made by the Superintendent of Schools by 6:00 AM.
Announcements to cancel or to delay the start of school will be made on the
following stations:
Television Stations 10, 12 and 6 Radio Stations 630AM, 92PRO FM, Lite 105 and 93.3 WSNE. You can also log on to the Channel 12 Eyewitness News Website at
www.wpri.com
and/or the Channel 10 Website at
www.turnto10.com.
Students' homes will also receive a telephone message from the district’s ConnectED System notifying of a school cancellation or delay. Please ensure that
your child’s school has accurate and current home telephone numbers on record.
When announcing a delay in the opening of school, the amount of time in the
delay will be indicated along with any other information (for example, a one
hour delay, no morning Kindergarten or Preschool). Regular bus transportation
and special education bus transportation within the city of East Providence will
be delayed by the same amount of time. That is, if school is delayed for one
hour, busses will be delayed one hour (for example, a student who is picked up
at a set time, such as 7:35 AM, will be picked up one hour later at 8:35 AM).
If your child is in special education and attends school outside of East
Providence, cancellations and/or delays are determined according to what is
decided by the school the child attends. If there is a delay in opening school,
morning Kindergarten, morning ESL Kindergarten, and all morning preschool
programs will be canceled automatically. There will be no transportation
provided by the School Department for afternoon ESL Kindergarten. Therefore,
parent/guardians desiring to have their children attend afternoon ESL
Kindergarten will have to arrange for their own transportation. Headstart
Programs will follow the delay schedule.
