Fine Arts Proficiency
Starting in September, 2008, all students in Rhode Island will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the Arts in order to graduate from high school. At the end of their 7th grade year, band students will be introduced to the East Providence School Department Fine Arts Proficiency Handbook. A copy of this handbook is also available for download from the band website (see below). Please review this handbook and other important documents carefully, and be certain to contact Mr. Abrahamson (sabrahamson@epschoolsri.com) or Ms. Sousa (eptowniebands@hotmail.com) if you have any questions or concerns.

To obtain proficiency in one area:
Students should select an area of Fine Arts to obtain proficiency. Entries may be submitted from K–12 coursework, extra curricular activities, other outside sources (e.g. dance classes, theater groups, music lessons), or other educational opportunities (e.g. RISD, band camp, etc.).

A few things to remember...

You may take a Fine Arts course and pass it for Fine Arts Credits. However, this is NOT a guarantee that you pass your proficiencies. You must hand in documentation and get a proficient level grade in order to use it for proficiencies.
