Overview
As a member of the EPHS
Band, you will be required to maintain a
“Resource Notebook.” As Ronald B. Thomas
states, “Skill development does not
necessarily lead to musical insight…
Performance alone is a relatively unreliable
means for the nurturing of musical insight.”
As a result, the EPHS Instrumental Music
Department is striving to teach
comprehensive musicianship which deals with
real learning about music; the Resource
Notebook serves as a means to achieving that
goal.
This Resource Notebook and should contain
ONLY items that apply to Band. (i.e. no
materials from Science, Math, English, etc.)
You will keep this notebook until you
graduate from East Providence School.
The Resource Notebook will be evaluated and
graded by Ms. Sousa at least once
every quarter (sometimes more often), so be
sure to keep it neat and organized. You
should check your notebook periodically to
be sure that it contains all of the required
items, and that they are organized in the
same order as your Table of Contents. At the
end of the school year, Ms. Sousa will keep
the notebook until you return to school in
September. Any student who wishes to keep
their notebook over the summer may do so
only with special permission from Ms. Sousa
Ms. Sousa reserves the right to add items to
this Table of Contents at any time, so be
sure to have a binder that is big enough to
include the items below and any items
that may be added in the future.
