Dear
Kent Heights Elementary School Families,
Welcome to another
promising school year. With approximately 300 students, 45
staff members, and an active PTA we are committed to providing
an education that is enriching and promotes a culture of
achievement.
Focusing on reading,
writing, and arithmetic is essential to the education of a
child. However, we all know that educating the whole person
requires more than developing academic skills. Children
meet with success when they feel safe and free to express
themselves.
A means in which we
will accomplish the goal to educate the whole person is by
continuing a program that has proven to be quite successful.
Our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) program
focuses on our school community members being Kind, Hardworking,
and Safe. As a result, students are better able to focus on
their education in a safe and nurturing environment.
Another program that
addresses the needs of our students is RTI (Response to
Intervention). RTI provides support and interventions to enable
each child to reach his/her full potential.
We are also fortunate
to have state of the art technology in our classrooms that
supports instruction. This technology includes Elmos (an
overhead projection device) in all classrooms and Smart Boards
in grades three to five, which allows teachers and students to
go beyond classroom walls and explore the world around them in a
dynamic and exciting way.
In order for these
and other programs to be successful and technology to be fully
utilized, professional development is essential. Therefore,
staff members will be participating in professional development
throughout the school year.
The home and school
connection is vital to the success of all children. Therefore,
I invite you to play an active role in your child’s education by
encouraging your child to do his/her best on all assignments,
fully participate in class, and adhere to school rules. Also,
maintaining open communication with your child’s teacher and
becoming an active member of the PTA will show your child that
you care about his/her education. As a result, your child will
embrace and value his/her education and school experiences.
Thank you for your
continued support. I am look forward to an enriching and
rewarding school year.
With Warm
Regards,
Fatima T. Avila
Principal
