| Tips for Helping Your Child Succeed
in School
 |
 |
Follow a schedule.
All children need a schedule they can depend on, one that
includes definite times for homework, meals, recreation and
sleep. Encourage a daily homework schedule. |
 |
Provide a quiet
place for your child to do homework, such as a desk in his/her
room or the kitchen table. Make sure there is sufficient light
and that distractions are limited. Also, be sure to provide the
necessary school supplies to make completion of work easier. |
 |
Read, read, read!
Continue to share reading with children, even after they can
read by themselves. For variety, try reading magazine and
newspaper articles aloud. |
 |
Check into it. Take
a few minutes every day to look at what your child brings home
from school. Talk about schoolwork together. This shows that you
care about the things your child spends most of their time
doing. |
 |
Encourage your
child to work independently. Assist him/her if needed. Give your
child positive words of praise, such as "I'm proud of you," or
"I knew you could do this all by yourself!"
